RVI’s Chiefs and Youth in Conversation

by | Events, Oral History, Theatre

As part of Likikiri’s ongoing partnership with the Rift Valley Institute, we dramatized research conducted for their South Sudan Customary Authorities Project and performed the play at their June 2018 Chiefs and Youth in Conversation meeting.

The play was inspired in part by Diana Felix da Costa’s research in Pibor, where she explored changing forms of authority among Chiefs and youths’ attitudes towards these forms of authority. Our short skit staged an encounter between armed youth and a Chief who takes a creative approach to resolving the conflict. We worked with the Likikiri team to rehearse new relations between youth and elders.
