Oral History and Documentation workshop for JMWOA

by | Community Development, Oral History, Participatory Methods, Workshops

Likikiri Collective, in partnership with the Institute for Justice and Peace Studies at the Catholic University of South Sudan, conducted a workshop on documentation methods for members of the Juba Massacre Widows’ and Orphans’ Association (JMWOA). The group had solicited this training as a step toward establishing a memorialization center dedicated to those who died in the 1992 Juba Massacre. The training covered current thinking and best practices in memorialization initiatives around the world, oral history interviewing techniques, other documentation methods such as photography and writing, and, finally, data management and storage.

After our workshop, Likikiri and CUofSS led JMWOA through the process of implementing a pilot oral history project.Â
